Each year, young enthusiasts from the Calgary Rotaract Club gather for a retreat outside ofthe city to begin next year's planning. This year, members along with past president Shawn Grey returned to Golden, B.C. and spent the weekend paddling along the Columbia River, and howling with wolves at a sanctuary nearby. Both the paddling and the howling were nothing short of an "amped up" lead into how the club hopes to set the tone for a refined strategic plan, and successful year ahead. Longtime member Cory Tretiak describes the retreat as a means of "strengthening the relationships that are the basis for the following year's activities. By bringing people together through fun, learning, and the odd challenge, we are better able to respond to the demands of the service."

International Sister Club

It is with great excitement that we announce the official partnership between the Calgary Rotaract Club and the Tegucigalpa Sur Rotaract Club. A motion to become Sister Clubs was passed by both the Canadian and Honduras Club's at the General Meeting on May 29, 2014. International Services Committee Chair, Shawn Gray and the ISC have been working with Tegucigalpa Sur for some time to establish this relationship.

We are very excited about working with Tegucigalpa Sur and in particular providing our assistance with their paved common area initiative for the Juan Ramon Molina School.

All Alberta Rotaract Forum

The Calgary Rotaract Club is proud to play host to the 2014 All Alberta Rotaract Forum. The forum brings together Clubs from districts 5360 and 5370 to discuss key challenges and opportunities facing Rotaract in the coming year. AARF is a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with other Rotaractor's but also to have fun and share in fellowship with likeminded people! Check out www.albertarotaract.org for the latest information and to register - it is free for Rotaractor's.

International Service Committee Focus

The second general meeting of the year was held last Thursday, 23 January where a year of hard work and commitment by the International Service Committee came to fruition. In what was almost a unanimous vote it was decided that the Calgary Rotaract club will focus its international volunteering efforts in Honduras. After an extensive process of understanding the needs of different countries and aligning them to the Club's strategic objectives it was determined that this will a place where we can make a real impact to the international community. Thank you to Shawn Gray, Bryce Maag and the rest of the ISC for all their hard work.

Meeting wrap-up

What a great general meeting tonight! So many fantastic things happening with the club; highlights included singing happy charter day to the University of Lethbridge Rotaract Club and completing our international “dating” profile in our search for a sister club. We know we’re awesome but we just have to convince our international counterparts … overall it was fantastic to see new and old faces alike. There is only one general meeting left of the year - see on you on 12 December!!
